received the M.Sc. degree in mathematics from the University of London,
England, in 1964, the M.S. degree in engineering science from the University of
California, Berkeley, in 1966, and the Ph.D. degree in mathematics from the
University of London, England, in 1968. From 1969 to 1981, he was with the
Department of Computer Science, State University of New York at Buffalo, where
in 1976 he became the Director of the Medical Image Processing Group. Since
1981, he is a Professor in the Medical Imaging Section of the Department of
Radiology at the University of Pennsylvania. He is involved editorially with a
number of journals --- in particular he was for a while the Editor-in-Chief of
the IEEE Transactions on Medical Imaging --- and is the author of numerous
articles and books on medical imaging, including Image Reconstruction from
Projections: the Fundamentals of Computerized Tomography, published by Academic
Press in 1980.
