received the MSc degree in applied mathematics in 1972 and the DSc degree with a thesis on cochlear mechanics in 1980, both from Delft University of Technology. From 1972 until 1988, he was assistant professor and then associate professor of applied mathematics at this university. Since 1988 he holds the chair of medical image sciences at Utrecht University and is currently scientific director of the Imaging Center Utrecht. Max Viergever is managing editor of the book series Computational Imaging and Vision (Kluwer Academic Publ), associate editor of IEEE Transactions on Medical Imaging, and he participates on the editorial boards of several journals. He is the author of over 150 scientific papers on biophysics and medical imaging, and author/editor of nine books.
